Harakeke - Flax Candle Holder

These porcelain candle holders were featured part of a joint exhibition called SeaT, a uniquely New Zealand design collaborative inspired by the rituals and experience of eating by the sea. The concept and project was devised , developed and distributed thorugh Essenze and David Trubridge Design. To read more about SeaT go to: http://www.essenze.co.nz and click on SeaT.

The pattern was inspired by the traditional flax weaving technique used to wrap food before it is put into the ground to cook. The piece is slipcast from porcelain and allows a soft light to shimmer through the different folds and creases of the seemingly hand-woven ceramic, creating soft ambient table light.
