JLD, CRONZ and essenze
Jo has used photograms, a form of photography, as the basis of all these
works. The stark, heavily contrasted images of plant life have been incorporated
on each piece.
The exhibition showcases two rugs commissioned by essenze and made by CRONZ
(Carpets and Rugs of New Zealand). The rugs have been hand tufted and play
with textures, juxtaposing art silk with plush shorn pile. Each rug is made
from 100% New Zealand Wool & Art Silk.
“As an artist and a designer it is always exciting to see your designs on a large scale, especially when you have traditionally worked on a small scale such as jewellery or ceramic pieces, which is what I am known for. When Clare Mora from essenze invited me, along with David Trubridge and Lucy Tupu, to design a range of limited edition handmade rugs, I jumped at the chance.”
